HP Laptop Reviews - HP.com Reviews
I'll start this HP.com review off with a little biographical information about myself. I am a 20 year old male that has worked for the past 5 year for a large school district's technology department and in this role I have had a hand in allocating millions of dollars into computers, projectors, etc. I have also dealt with IBM, Dell, Epson, Brother, HP, and Apple representatives directly, so I have a vast amount of experience dealing with these large OEM companies. In the past 6 months I have either directly or indirectly purchased 4 laptops from HP.com for personal use as well as for my marketing business.
If you just came here to save money, the discount link at the bottom of my review will allow you save $30 off a purchase $150 or greater with the coupon code.
HP vs. Dell Reviews
I will say that as a computer science major and IT professional for 5 years that I am without any doubt a PC guy. The next question though, is which brand to choose? There are many slight differences which can add up, but you will not see any blaringly obvious differences between Dell and HP. I have worked extensively with Dell in the past, and based on this I can say that I feel HP puts better hardware in their mid-range computers. Low end computers will probably have literally the safe manufacturers putting hardware in computers, and high end computers people will be shopping for name brand components anyway.
I own a Dell laptop and an HP laptop and I can say that the battery life is substantially better on my HP laptop which either means that the hardware is consuming less energy or the battery has more capacity. I also feel that the hardware is laid out better on HP laptops to allow for cooling, especially the 9-cell battery pack because it elevates the computer so that the bottom won't get hot, therefore increasing the life span of the processor and video card.
HP vs. Dell Quality
Overall there are not many differences whatsoever between Dell and HP, I simply prefer the overall design and hardware configuration offered by HP. I feel that they pay more attention to the small details. The stat sheets will show identical hardware at the same exact price, so it comes down to personal preference.
What to look for when customizing your HP Laptop or Desktop
There are a couple of things that you should always upgrade when ordering a computer, because they will offer a large increase in performance for the least amount of money. Despite what you would think, most increases in processor speed will not affect the average consumer, what matters is the "cache size" of the processor, a bigger cache will result in a far faster computer. When purchasing a computer always maximize the most utilized portions of the computer. It is safe to assume you will be using the internet a lot, so always get the best network adapter they offer. The next biggest thing is the RAM, or memory. Since programs require more and more memory to operate as time goes on, an increase in RAM will always result in an increase in perfomance, even if you had 16 gigs of RAM, your computer would find a way to utilize it.

HP.com Laptop Review

I have worked with many computers, literally thousands, during the course of my career but I have never enjoyed a laptop as much as the one that I am writing this review with. The fingerprint reader was what really pushed me over the top, I made all of my passwords into randomly generated characters which are entered automatically with the swipe of any of my fingers. For my own use, I typically get about 7 hours of battery life from my current laptop which I have yet to see something that even comes close. I recommend HP to my friends and family, and in fact I have bought some for them as well. |
